LM002

The Lamborghini LM002 traces its roots to the Cheetah, a rear-engined military prototype Lamborghini built in 1977 in the hope of winning defence contracts. When the military deals fell through, Lamborghini reworked the concept through the LM001 before arriving at the definitive formula: a front-mounted 5.2-litre V12 taken directly from the Countach QV, producing around 450 hp, in a massive four-seat off-roader. The production Lamborghini LM002 was unveiled at the 1986 Brussels Motor Show and immediately earned the nickname "Rambo Lambo" for its brutal styling and outrageous character. It featured a luxurious wood and leather interior, a 290-litre fuel tank, and bespoke Pirelli Scorpion run-flat tyres developed specially for the truck, capable of coping with desert sand and 210 km/h autobahn runs alike. Around 48 examples were built to LM/American specification for the US market. Lamborghini never fully industrialised production of the LM002, and despite claiming around 800 orders the factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese ended the run in 1993 after 328 examples. Decades before the Urus, the Lamborghini LM002 invented the super-SUV genre, and its combination of V12 drama, extreme rarity and pop-culture fame has turned it into a blue-chip collectible.
