History of the LAMBORGHINI Miura

The LAMBORGHINI Miura is widely regarded as the world's first true supercar, and it set the template that every mid-engined exotic has followed since. Conceived by Lamborghini's young engineering team of Gian Paolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace, the LAMBORGHINI Miura broke convention by mounting its 3.9-litre V12 transversely behind the cockpit, a radical layout that gave the car its low, dramatic silhouette. The rolling chassis was first shown at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, and the finished, sensational body debuted at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, where it stunned the public and instantly filled Lamborghini's order book. The breathtaking shape of the LAMBORGHINI Miura was penned by Marcello Gandini at Carrozzeria Bertone, a design still considered one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Production ran through three main evolutions: the original P400, the more refined P400 S, and the definitive P400 SV. The LAMBORGHINI Miura was also the basis for the legendary one-off Jota, built by Bob Wallace, which later inspired a handful of factory SVJ conversions. Built entirely in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the LAMBORGHINI Miura cemented the marque's reputation as a builder of uncompromising, high-performance grand tourers and remains the car that defined the brand.
