Veyron

A total of 450 BUGATTI Veyron have been produced on earth in France between 2005 and 2015. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the car that redrew the boundaries of what a road-legal machine could do. Conceived after Volkswagen Group acquired the Bugatti name in 1998, it was engineered in Germany and hand-assembled at the historic Molsheim works in Alsace, France, where Ettore Bugatti had built his masterpieces a century earlier. The Bugatti Veyron takes its name from Pierre Veyron, the Bugatti works driver who won the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its heart is an 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 — essentially two narrow-angle V8s sharing a crankshaft — producing 1,001 metric horsepower and 922 lb-ft of torque, fed by ten radiators and driving all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The first customer Bugatti Veyron left Molsheim in 2005 after a development saga so difficult that the project was nearly cancelled twice. The original coupé reached 407 km/h (253 mph), and Top Gear named it Car of the Decade. Four principal families followed: the standard 16.4, the open-top Grand Sport (2009), the Super Sport (2010), which set a 431.072 km/h record and was built in just 30 examples, and the Grand Sport Vitesse (2012), the fastest roadster in the world. Production of the Bugatti Veyron ended in 2015 after exactly 450 cars — 300 coupés and 150 roadsters — closing a decade in which the Veyron made every rival recalibrate its ambitions. Today a Bugatti Veyron is a blue-chip modern collectible, with the finest Super Sport and special-edition cars trading well into seven figures.
