EB110

The Bugatti EB110 was the audacious Italian rebirth of a legendary French name, unveiled in Paris on 15 September 1991, exactly 110 years after Ettore Bugatti's birth. Behind it stood Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli, who built Bugatti Automobili SpA a futuristic factory at Campogalliano, near Modena, Italy, and hired the cream of Italian supercar engineering. The EB110 was years ahead of its rivals: a carbon-fibre monocoque supplied by French aerospace firm Aerospatiale, permanent four-wheel drive, and a 3.5-litre V12 with 60 valves and four small IHI turbochargers, delivering 553 hp in the EB110 GT and 603 hp in the lighter EB110 Super Sport. The SS could exceed 212 mph, making the EB110 among the fastest production cars of its day, and Michael Schumacher famously bought a yellow Super Sport in 1994, giving the car lasting celebrity. Styling was finalized by Giampaolo Benedini from Marcello Gandini's original proposal. But the timing was cruel: the early-1990s recession crushed the supercar market, and Bugatti Automobili collapsed in September 1995 after only 139 cars were built, roughly 96 GTs and about 33 Super Sports plus prototypes, figures that vary slightly by source. Once a bargain exotic, the EB110 is now blue-chip: classic.com shows GTs averaging about US$1.6 million and Super Sports around US$2.6 million, and the strong 2026 modern-supercar market keeps pushing the EB110 upward.
