History of the Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5

A total of 6,227 JAGUAR E-Type Series 1.5 have been produced on earth in United Kingdom between 1967 and 1968. The Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 is the transitional E-Type — a car Jaguar never officially named, and one collectors argue about to this day. In August 1967, ahead of the 1968 model year, Jaguar had to federalise the E-Type for tightening US safety and emissions law. The glass headlamp covers that defined the Series 1 were the first casualty: they went, and the Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 gained open, exposed headlamps set in reshaped scoops. Under the bonnet, the triple SU carburettors of the Series 1 4.2 were replaced on North American cars by twin Zenith-Strombergs, which cost roughly 20 hp; rocker switches replaced the beautiful old toggles, the exterior bonnet latches disappeared, and the interior was softened for the new US interior-impact rules. Everything else — the monocoque, the 4.2-litre XK straight-six, the independent rear suspension, the shape Enzo Ferrari is said to have called the most beautiful car ever made — carried over unchanged. Jaguar built the Series 1.5 from August 1967 until July 1968, when the Series 2 formally took over; the E-Type registers put 4.2 Series 1.5 production at roughly 8,591 cars across roadster and fixed-head coupé, right- and left-hand drive. The Jaguar E-Type Series 1.5 is the connoisseur's value play in the E-Type market: it has the pure Series 1 body and dashboard proportions without the covered-headlamp premium, and it sits a clear tier below Series 1 money.
