History of the PEUGEOT 504 Coupé V6
The PEUGEOT 504 Coupé V6 is the most elegant and exclusive chapter of the storied PEUGEOT 504 family. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969 as a four-cylinder model, the 504 Coupé was styled by Franco Martinengo at Pininfarina, marking one of the most celebrated design partnerships between PEUGEOT and the Italian coachbuilder. The bodyshells of the 504 Coupé were built in Turin and shipped to PEUGEOT's Sochaux plant for final assembly, giving each car a unique Franco-Italian pedigree. The V6 variant arrived in September 1974, when PEUGEOT discontinued the four-cylinder Coupé and Cabriolet versions and fitted the new 2.7-litre PRV V6 — a joint engine project between PEUGEOT, Renault and Volvo. The original V6 unit produced 136 PS (100 kW), paired with a five-speed manual transmission and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power was later raised to 144 PS (106 kW) in subsequent iterations. Beyond its luxurious GT credentials, the 504 Coupé V6 also earned a remarkable motorsport résumé. The model was campaigned in the World Rally Championship, primarily on long-distance events, and famously won outright the 1978 Safari Rally — an achievement that cemented the 504 V6's reputation for endurance and toughness. Production of the 504 Coupé V6 ran from September 1974 until the beginning of August 1983, after 31,163 examples had been built. Today, the PEUGEOT 504 Coupé V6 is regarded as one of the most desirable French GTs of its era, prized for its understated Pininfarina silhouette, its melodious PRV V6 soundtrack, and its rally heritage.
