Giulia Sprint GT

The ALFA ROMEO Giulia Sprint GT was unveiled at the Arese plant on 9 September 1963 and shown publicly at the Frankfurt Motor Show later that month. Its crisp, timeless bodywork was penned by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro working for Bertone, and the lines carried over the verve of his earlier Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint into a smaller, more affordable package for the sporting masses. Beneath the skin, the ALFA ROMEO Giulia Sprint GT used the unibody floor pan of the Giulia saloon and the company's jewel-like all-aluminium 1,570 cc twin-cam four, an engine that became legendary for its eagerness and free-revving character. The earliest ALFA ROMEO Giulia Sprint GT cars are instantly recognisable by their "step-front" (scalino) bonnet, where the lid sits slightly proud of the nose panel, and these step-nose examples are the most coveted by collectors today. The ALFA ROMEO Giulia Sprint GT quickly spawned a whole dynasty: the hotter GT Veloce (GTV) arrived in 1965, the entry-level GT 1300 Junior broadened the range, and the lightweight, Autodelta-developed GTA turned the coupé into a giant-killing touring-car racer. Through all these evolutions the ALFA ROMEO Giulia Sprint GT remained the blueprint, blending everyday usability with genuine driver's-car appeal and securing its place as one of the quintessential Italian coupés of the 1960s.
