History of the ALFA ROMEO Giulia GT Junior

A total of 91,964 ALFA ROMEO Giulia GT Junior 1300 (plus 13,120 of the 1600 version) have been produced on earth in Italy between 1966 and 1976. The Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior was born from a tax loophole and became one of the most loved Alfas ever made. In 1960s Italy, engines above 1,300 cc attracted a punishing rate of duty, so in 1966 Alfa Romeo took the beautiful Giulia Sprint GT coupé — the 105-series shape drawn by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone — and fitted it with a 1,290 cc twin-cam four producing 89 hp. The result, the Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior, was cheaper to buy, cheaper to tax and, being lighter over the nose, arguably the sweetest-handling car in the whole 105 coupé family. It kept the stepfront nose of the early Sprint GT until 1968, giving the earliest Giulia GT Junior cars the 'scalino' detail that collectors prize most. Alfa Romeo built the Giulia GT Junior at Arese, and it stayed in the catalogue far longer than anyone expected: 91,964 examples of the 1300 were produced, making it by a wide margin the best-selling of all the 105-series coupés. From 1972 a 1,570 cc GT 1600 Junior joined the range with 109 hp, and 13,120 of those were built; in 1974 both received the 'Unificato' body with the flush-fitting grille and revised interior. Production of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior finally ended in 1976. Today it is the accessible entry point into the 105 coupé world — significantly cheaper than a GTV 2000 or a GTA, yet visually near-identical and, many argue, the better driver's car. Upgrades & evolutions during the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior production: ALFA ROMEO - GT 1300 Junior (stepfront/scalino nose, 89 hp, 91,964 built) : 1966 - 1976 ALFA ROMEO - GT 1300 Junior (round-tail body) : 1968 - 1974 ALFA ROMEO - GT 1600 Junior (1,570 cc, 109 hp, 13,120 built) : 1972 - 1976 ALFA ROMEO - GT 1300/1600 Junior 'Unificato' : 1974 - 1976 Average quotation for the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior: cheapest US$9,000, average US$34,336, most expensive US$90,000 (listings and auction results, 2021 and 2026). search.everycars.co is a website which goal is to provide you with all the information possible on a classic car. This is basically a classic car database. Our goal is to link every existing source of information related to all car models produced on earth between approximately year 1900 to year 2000. With all these information, you will be able to select the ideal classic car for a great renovation project.
This is a work in progress project, which has began by the end of year 2018. This is also a part time project, as our founder is having a 9-5 job during the day, and is working on the entire everycars projects on free time.
everycars is a larger project in which you will find several websites related to the classic car world. More than this database, we have also created a community for classic car renovation and a reversed job board (only in France).
