Supra A80

The Toyota Supra A80, the fourth and final generation of the classic Supra, is the car that turned a Japanese grand tourer into a global performance icon. Launched in 1993, the Toyota Supra A80 abandoned the angular look of its A70 predecessor for muscular, rounded curves topped by a distinctive rear wing, and it was offered with two straight-six engines: the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE and the formidable twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE. That sequential-turbo 3.0-litre six produced 280 PS in Japan and up to 320-330 hp in export markets, but its real legend lies in its cast-iron block's almost limitless tuning potential, with built engines reliably producing four-figure horsepower. Paired with a strong Getrag V160 six-speed manual, the Toyota Supra A80 was a genuine supercar-slayer straight from the factory and a tuner's dream thereafter. Its status exploded when an orange A80 driven by Paul Walker starred in the original "The Fast and the Furious," cementing the Toyota Supra A80 as a pop-culture phenomenon. Production continued in Japan until August 2002, with roughly 80,151 examples built and fewer than 12,000 turbo cars reaching the United States before tightening emissions rules ended the run. Long after production stopped, demand has soared, and the twin-turbo six-speed Toyota Supra A80 is now one of the most sought-after and rapidly appreciating Japanese performance cars in the world.
